5 Guilt Free Snack Ideas

If you are like me, you love to snack and are not that big on eating huge meals. But what can you eat that will not leave you feeling super guilty the rest of the day??

Here are a few things that I like to eat for snack and they are also healthy!

  1. Hummus and Veggies: I am obsessed with hummus and I could eat it every single say. Sometimes I do it every day. At 70 calories for 2 tbsp and delicious it is on my meal plan every single week. My favorite veggies to eat it with are carrots, celery, pepper spears and chopped broccoli.
  2. Plain Greek Yogurt and Fruit. I love to eat yogurt! I used to eat all the regular brands without thinking of all of the added sugars. I now love to have plain no-sugar added greek yogurt and add my own toppings. Blueberries, strawberries and honey are just a few of the toppings that I add to my yogurt.
  3. Peanut Butter and Apple Slices. There really is no explanation necessary for this one. I use all natural peanut butter like Justin’s Peanut Butter.
  4. Nuts. When I am starving and just wanting a little something to make my stomach stop growling, I go for a small handful of nuts. My favorite is roasted, lightly salted cashews! They are delicious!
  5. Smoothies or protein shakes. My blender is the most used appliance in my kitchen and this is due to my obsession with shakes. I have them for breakfast daily and I also find them to be a great post workout snack. Just be careful not to add too many yummy things to them and then kill your calorie count for the day.

I hope you enjoyed my list of 5 Guilt Free Snack Ideas. What is your favorite snack food?

Peaches Rule The Summer

Who can turn down a fresh peach? It’s one of the quintessential fruits of the summer. And of course, they have various other attributes. They represent everything from beauty, to sexuality, to longevity.

This summer, however, they also represent trends.

The peach is thriving in the warm weather months of 2016, and there are three different ways that you can utilize it to make your summer that much more juicy.

The Fruit
You should always try to buy produce in season, and peaches are no different. They’re sweeter and juicier at the height of season than they are at any other time of the year. Plus, they’re likely grown and sold from a closer, local market than they are off-season, where they have to be imported from various locations.

According to research, the average peach only contains a measly 37 calories. Granted, the size of the peach that you have can certainly vary the fruit’s caloric value, but that’s a fairly low average when you’re counting calories. They also contain potassium, phosphorus, folate, vitamin E (an antioxidant), and vitamin K among others, making them a healthy and delicious treat.

The Lifestyle and Organizational App
“Peach” is a newer app in professional communication. Described here as “a new social networking app that combines Slack-like commands with a Facebook Messenger-style interface,” Peach is already used by impressive companies. Those include Asos, Merriam-Webster, and publishers like Vice and The Washington Post.

Users can post status updates, follow friends and colleagues, and have conversations with the same ease of texting. That being said, the app works best when used in a corporate setting, where there is usually more need for a universal form of communication among workers.

The Color
Not surprisingly, peach is a trendy color right now. Fashion inspiration is usually pulled from seasonal surroundings, and peaches are everywhere this time of year. You can easily grab a top or dress in peach, but why not have a little more fun with the color this season?

A peach blazer or pair of peach-colored skinny jeans can give you a feminine and flirty look. Or you can grab a few peach accessories. As you can see from this bags collection, designers are still coveting the color of the season. Try Stella McCartney’s Mini Tote for a professional look, or Anya Hindmarch’s “Smiley” tote for something a little more casual.

Let peaches inspire you this season. You never know. It might just become your new favorite fruit, color, and app!

The Paleo Diet: Is It Right For You?

paleo image

Diet fads come and go, but the paleo diet has proven to have surprising staying power. Or maybe it’s not surprising at all. Unlike other diet trends which require dieters to jump through hoops and purchase a pantry full of supplements, the paleo diet is mostly about self-control and common sense. For the uninitiated, a paleo diet promotes the idea that we should eat like our ancient ancestors, relying almost entirely on meats, nuts and berries for sustenance. That means no dairy, grains or processed foods. Although the idea of eating like a caveman has been around … well, since the cavemen, it was popularized by Loren Cordain in his 2002 book “The Paleo Diet.” Like every diet, there are pros and cons to surrendering to the paleo-lifestyle, and even if you aren’t ready to completely abandon milk, bread and sugar, a little knowledge can go a long way. Here are three things you might want to know before deciding if the paleo diet is right for you.

The Paleo Diet Emphasizes Fresh Food

There is an ongoing argument over the purported health benefits of the paleo diet, but most experts do agree about one thing: It places the focus back on fresh, simple food. It’s hard to argue with the idea of eating more vegetables, fruits and raw nuts. This is especially true if you’re replacing a processed snack like a candy bar or potato chips with an apple or a handful of roasted almonds. That said, the absence of whole grains and legumes means you do run the risk of missing out on a whole subset of important nutrients. A vitamin supplement is definitely recommended for those considering strict adherence to the paleo diet. But here’s the greatest thing about any diet plan: It’s a plan, not a law.

It’s All About Balance

One of the biggest complaints about the paleo diet is that it requires a constantly watchful eye on what foods you’re putting in your mouth. If you are the kind of person who likes to cook and is willing to plan your weekly meals in advance, this is less of a problem. But if you like to wing it and eat out a lot, then sticking to a paleo diet can be a bit of a pain. Although restaurants do offer gluten-free options which can meet all of the paleo requirements, it can be very difficult to find menu items that don’t have some dairy (especially cheese) or whole grains. If you are sticking to a strict paleo diet, then you need to have some discipline. Always keep a snack with you to supplement the limited options at local eateries. Better yet, invest in a food dehydrator, which transforms your favorite meats and fruits into delicious, easy-to-carry snacks. It’s the best way to avoid a “paleo-drought.”

An Active Lifestyle is Recommended

The paleo diet leads to weight loss by cutting a lot of carbohydrates and processed sugars out of your daily menu. However, this plan can backfire if you don’t lead an active lifestyle. Carbohydrates provide the body with a readily-available source of energy, so a low-carb diet can leave you feeling sluggish. It’s important to counteract this feeling from day one by staying active. You also want to give your body a chance to process high-protein, cholesterol-rich foods like meat and eggs. Most diets are a balance of conscious eating habits and physical fitness. The paleo diet is no exception.

Edible Corporate Gifts – Yes or No?

Most savvy business owners know that if they want to secure custom and a good reputation, it’s vital that they treat their clients well. Being respectful, polite, and meeting clients’ wishes on time are just some crucial ways of keeping clients happy, however more and more business owners are also turning to giving corporate gifts in order to keep their clients coming back for more. The market for corporate incentives in the US alone is worth around $38 billion, with most of that money being spent on small token gifts such as inexpensive bottles of alcohol or even events tickets. When it comes to buying gifts for their employees, your average US company will spend around $25 per head. With this in mind, more and more companies are turning to edibles as corporate gifts – after all, everybody loves food.

Inexpensive Edible Gifts

The best thing about buying edible gifts is that it’s entirely possible to buy them in bulk making it much easier for companies to gift their clients and employees. Gifts such as chocolate boxes are also quite inexpensive per box, meaning that companies won’t even have to stretch to the full $25 per person yet can still give their employees and clients a small gift that will make them feel valued and that they will enjoy.

Best Edible Corporate Gift Ideas

When it comes to choosing great edible corporate gifts for your clients and employees, there are a multitude of different options for you to choose from. For those looking to save money or those with a small gift budget, inexpensive boxes of chocolates or even doughnuts are often a great choice that are sure to bring a smile to the recipient’s face. Other great edible gift ideas are gift vouchers for restaurants, food hampers, and even treating your clients and employees to a fully paid for meal out. Cookies are also a great choice for an edible gift – check out the great range of edible corporate gift ideas at GJ Cookies.

Why You Should Give Customers Gifts

Along with giving corporate gifts to your employees and clients, it’s also a great idea to include your customers – many customers actually prefer gifts over discounts. Whether it’s the holiday season or you have a special event on that you would like to attract more customers into your business for, giving out free gifts is a sure-fire way to entice more people. There are a number of different gift options that you can give to your customers, whether it be small free gifts with a purchase that they can use such as pens or shopping trolley coins – but edible gifts are often the best way to attract customers. Offer candy, cookies, or even chocolates to anyone who walks into your store for a day – you won’t be disappointed with the footfall!

Can you think of any more great edible corporate gifts ideas that could be given to clients, employees or even customers? How do you gift your employees and clients at the holiday season? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.

A Few Good Reasons for Planning Your Christmas Party Early

Aside from the fact that there are often discounts given for early or advanced bookings for parties and other events, there are actually a number of other reasons why early party planning is a good idea. Since a Christmas party is typically something employers throw to show their employees gratitude for another good year, the party ought to be nice. Therefore, since we know awesome parties don’t throw themselves, it’s a bit important to look at what goes into planning a company Christmas bash. Following are just a few reasons why early planning and bookings can make or break your party.

Ordering Your Invitations

Barring any unforeseen circumstances you probably know who will be in your employ this coming Christmas. Getting your invitations designed, ordered and mailed is something you will want to do as early as possible. What good is an elaborate bash if you don’t invite people properly? Yes, some of you will choose e-vites but really, the old-fashioned way is so much nicer in our opinion. Many companies choose to keep a few blank invitations for last-minute additions so that is something you may want to think about doing.

Booking Live Entertainment

Keep in mind that loads of other people are going to be planning their Christmas events early. If you want to get in the running with the perfect choice in live entertainment you really should start booking your acts straight away. There is nothing worse than planning a superb party only to find your choice of entertainment limited at best. Go out and scout for new bands or look online for some ideas. Remember, the good ones go fast so get your entertainment sorted. In fact, many people start booking their bands before they do anything else. This is because you want to make sure the dates your entertainment act is available will mesh with your venue and so forth.

Hiring Caterers and Bar Service

Start looking at companies like liquidchefs.co.uk for your mobile bar service. You can’t possibly have a great Christmas party without a great liquor service! Many a memory is created at the good old company Christmas party each year and to carry on that tradition you will want to be sure you are not lacking in the drinks department. Like your venue and your entertainment, your mobile bar service can book solid as early as August. To avoid settling for last pick or pouring the drinks yourself at your company’s party, grab a solid bar service and get your dates locked in.

Planning any party early can help eliminate some very serious headaches. It doesn’t matter if you are planning for 50 or for 500 at your Christmas party, getting your plans laid out early and having all your ducks in a row will help to ensure a successful event. As soon as you know the dates that work best for your company and the venue you’d like to go with, start calling around and looking online to be sure you have everything ready on time.

Negroni Sbagliato

toronto lounges

Cocktails are a type of drinks which were invented by creative enthusiast who wanted to experiment with their drinks. As the time passed by, they became heavily commercialized. Nowadays, everyone is making cocktails and everybody is trying to promote something through them. Only a handful of people still see fun and creativity when making these drinks.

Negroni Sbagliato is a drink with rather funny and interesting history. Original Negroni was created in Florence, Italy. It was created by count Negroni. He often drank Americano cocktail and he wanted a bit stiffer drink. So, he ordered his bartender to put gin into Americano, instead of soda water. Count Negroni loved the cocktail and even made his own distillery that sold Negroni. Given that it was popular all over Italy, it was also served in Milano. During one night, few decades after creation of original Negroni, unknown bartender wanted to make this cocktail. Instead of putting gin, he accidentally put prosecco instead. This is how Negroni Sbagliato was created (sbagliato means mistaken, flawed in Italian). In that regard, this was perhaps the most interesting and most unique cocktail which was made by complete accident. Today, Negroni Sbagliato is even more popular than the original. You can find it in many bars all over the world. One of the Toronto lounges that makes excellent version of this cocktail is D.W. Alexander, renowned Canadian lounge, located in Toronto.

 1 ounce Prosecco

 1 ounce Campari

 1 ounce Sweet Vermouth

 One orange twist

This cocktail is pretty easy for preparation. You need to take Prosecco, Campari and Sweet Vermouth and put them in a glass. Fill the glass with ice and stir the content. Afterwards, put orange twist on the edge of the glass for garnish. Negroni and Negroni Sbagliato are great examples that people are still creating cocktails for fun, which was their original role.

How Does Caffeine Give You Energy?

Under the microscope, caffeine is a crystalline substance found in many foods and drinks. It is a powerful stimulant that can give you a lift in energy by inducing metabolic reactions that are beneficial. It enhances mental alertness, improves physical responses and reduces the risk of certain serious illnesses. Energy drinks are specially formulated to provide a boost in mental and physical performance. They’re one of the most efficient sources of caffeine available.

Increased Mental Alertness

Caffeine helps to improve your mental focus and concentration. It has been shown that caffeine boosts the effects of certain neurotransmitters. It also blocks the effects of adenosine which is the chemical in your brain that tells you it’s time to go to sleep. By tricking your brain chemistry into thinking that it is time to be awake and improving the transmission rate of active signals, caffeine cause your mind to function in a heightened state. It simulates your natural fight or flight responses to improve your ability to react and improvise under stress.

Physical Responses

Caffeine helps to speed up your body’s natural metabolism. It causes the release of adrenaline and increases your heart rate. With a faster rate of blood flow, the cells in your body have better access to existing nutrients. The liver releases more sugar into the blood stream which also increases the amount of available energy. For better muscle response, your body begins burning more of its stored fat instead of carbohydrates. This helps to increase your available energy for lifting and athletic performance.

Longer Term Health Benefits

Caffeine is an antioxidant. It contains polyphenols that reduce free radicals in the blood stream. It limits the effects of aging and helps to extend the life of healthy cells. Consistent use of caffeine over the long run can improve skin health and increase healthy blood flow. Some recent studies suggest that regular caffeine users are also at a lower risk for serious illnesses like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and diabetes.

How Much Should I Drink?

Most experts agree that too much caffeine can be harmful and it should be consumed responsibly. More and 400 milligrams a day is beyond the recommended daily allowance. The most popular brands of energy drinks are an excellent source of healthy levels of caffeine:

  • Redbull – 80 per can, 9.5 mg per ounce
  • Monster – 160 per can, 10 mg per ounce
  • Rock star – 180 per can, 10 mg per ounce
  • Nos – 160 per can, 8.3 mg per ounce
  • Up Time – 100 per can, 11.8 mg per ounce
  • AMP – 142 per can, 8.9 mg per ounce
  • Full Throttle – 160 per can, 10 mg per ounce

By way of comparison, consider that a 16 ounce Starbuck’s coffee contains 330 milligrams of caffeine which is over 20 mg per ounce. Most energy drinks do not have this high of a level of caffeine, but they do provide additional nutritional benefits.
