Today I decided to try out the Bounce Back Fast DVD that was sent to me by perinatal exercise specialist Helene Byrne. This is a workout DVD that is intended to help women get back into shape after childbirth. I know I am still pregnant (18 weeks to be exact) but I figured I would take a look at the DVD and see what I am in for after baby.
The DVD Features two fitness band workouts. Gentle Moves (30 minutes) and Bounce Back Fast (35 minutes). Today I tried out Bounce Back Fast. The DVD claims to:
- Flatten and tone all four layers of the abdominal wall
- Strengthen deep core muscles
- Repair abdominal separation
- Corrects posture
- Restore flexibility
- Builds upper body strength for lifting and carrying
It started out with some great stretches. The stretches reminded me of yoga poses and I felt very relaxed. After the stretching we moved on to ab work with resistance bands. I found the bands to make the exercises awkward. I think this is something that I will have to practice to get a hang of. The idea is to use the band to help support the neck and head but I found it was making me strain instead. I will have to try it again to figure it out properly. The band was amazing to help with stretching out my hamstrings and calves, also for upper body. My favorite part of the DVD was the upper body work. The moves are targeted towards the muscles that you need for lifting your baby! It was a really good shoulder/back workout. It ended out with some stretches.
All in all it is a pretty good DVD. I think I could appreciate it more after birth. Right now I am still doing my regular workout routines because of that the workout felt a little slow for me. I am sure when I am recovering I will enjoy the slow pace of the stretches etc. If you are a new mom or you are going to give birth I recommend trying out Bounce Back Fast!
