James Gandolfini died today of a suspected heart attack while on vacation in Italy. Such a huge loss to the film community. Born in New Jersey, Gandolfini had a strong sense of being Italian, and regularly visited Italy. Gandolfini was introduced to acting as a young man living in New York City.
Gandolfini’s most acclaimed role was that of Tony Soprano. He played the character from 1999-2007. James won 3 Emmy awards for his portrayal of the New Jersey mobster/family man. This is the role I will most remember him for.
On August 30, 2008, Gandolfini married his girlfriend, former model Deborah Lin, in Hawaii. Lin gave birth to their daughter in October of 2012. James has a teenage son from his previous marriage. Just from the articles that I have read in the last hour, I can see the outpouring of love coming out from the acting community that he was such a large part of. He was definitely a talented man but he also is know as a very giving, and very loving man. James Gandolfini will be missed by many. My thoughts are with his wife and children at this difficult time.
